چکیده

Recent studies have indicated an association between gut microbiome composition and various disorders, including infectious diseases. The of the differs among ethnicities countries, possibly resulting in diversified interactions host immunity microbiome. Characterization baseline healthy people is essential step for better understanding biological associated with individual populations. However, data on gut/fecal not been accumulated individuals West Africa. In present study, we examined fecal adults Ghana. Toward this, 16S rRNA gene libraries were prepared using bacterial fractions derived from 55 Ghanaian adults, which then subjected to next-generation sequencing. was dominated by Firmicutes (Faecalibacterium, Subdoligranulum, Ruminococcaceae UCG-014), Proteobacteria (Escherichia-Shigella Klebsiella), Bacteroidetes (Prevotella 9 Bacteroides), consistent previous observations African cohorts. Further, our analysis revealed differences a lower diversity cohort compared those reported non-African countries. This first study describe substantial obtained high-throughput metagenomic tools samples may provide valuable basis determining progression diseases

Fecal nickel excretion by healthy adults.

Nickel was measured by atomic absorption spectrometry in three-day collections of feces from healthy hospital workers (age 22-65) who had lived for more than a year ‘in Hartford, Connecticut. None of the 10 subjects (4 , 6j9.) had occupational exposure to nickel. Fecal nickel averaged 3.3 gzg/g (wet weight); SD, ±0.8; and range, 2.1 to 4.4 tg/g. Corresponding figures on a dry-weight basis were ...

The Microbiome of the Middle Meatus in Healthy Adults

Rhinitis and rhinosinusitis are multifactorial disease processes in which bacteria may play a role either in infection or stimulation of the inflammatory process. Rhinosinusitis has been historically studied with culture-based techniques, which have implicated several common pathogens in disease states. More recently, the NIH Human Microbiome Project has examined the microbiome at a number of a...

Fecal Microbiome in Epidemiologic Studies-Response.

We thank Drew and colleagues (1) for their interest in our recent publication (2) and share in their enthusiasm for identifying "a straight forward self-collection procedure" for "multiple molecular analyses." Fecal collection and sampling have continued to be a topic of study, including our own published works (2–4). In our reply to the comment by Drew and colleagues, we offer short clarificat...

Fecal Microbiome in Epidemiologic Studies-Letter.

We congratulate Sinha and colleagues on their recent report (1) comparing fecal sample collection methods for epidemiologic studies of the gut microbiome. These data contribute to the increasing body of literature describing robust methodologic frameworks for specimen collection and processing (2, 3). However, their claim that fixation of stool using RNAlater results in "considerable changes to...

The Fecal Microbiome in Cats with Diarrhea

Recent studies have revealed that microbes play an important role in the pathogenesis of gastrointestinal (GI) diseases in various animal species, but only limited data is available about the microbiome in cats with GI disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the fecal microbiome in cats with diarrhea. Fecal samples were obtained from healthy cats (n = 21) and cats with acute (n = 19) or ...
